I get asked this question all the time, so let’s see if I can answer this question once and for all! I have people say to me that they haven’t had their carpet cleaned in ten years because they thought that if they had cleaned before that it would get dirty faster! NOT TRUE! This is a misconception! With the equipment and cleaning science, carpet can be cleaned and left with no dirt attracting residue, unlike early methods referred to as shampooing. When you shampoo your hair you have to rinse it! If you don’t, you know what happens!
Listen, the first and most important reason to clean you carpet is for the health benefits and then for the appearance! Carpet is unique in the fact that it acts as a filtration system in your home or office. This is actually good, because when the pollutants (dust, pollen, bacteria and many more indoor pollutants) that are in the air settle to the floor, they settle in the carpet keeping them from staying airborne, where you breathe! The next reason is for the appearance! It’s a fact that professional cleaning extends the life of your investment plus keeps indoor air healthier!
The answer to the question of cleaning frequencies depends on several factors. In the chart that I have included, which is the chart from the I.I.C.R.C. Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning, you can see for yourself how often you should have a professional cleaning!
Also, please keep in mind that most carpet manufactures state in their warranty information that the carpet must be cleaned at least once a year to keep the warranty intact!
Do you own leather? If you do, when was it last cleaned? Usually when someone buys leather they are told that there is virtually no maintenance other that using soap and water to occasionally wipe it down. That’s it! This is a misconception and here’s why.
- First, low maintenance is usually interpreted as no maintenance.
- Second, “protected” leathers have a durable pigmented finish, but not indestructible. This finish initially allows consumers to clean leather with almost anything and get an immediate satisfactory result. The use of these products, not designed for leather, may break down this durable finish causing the pigment to crack and peel. Improper maintenance directly leads to expensive restoration or replacement.
- Third, aniline and nubuck leathers are not low maintenance and have very little if any water repelling properties, unless it has been treated. You will see this for yourself if you ever spill liquid on the surface. These leathers are extremely porous and should be cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis to protect your investment.
- Fourth, leather is purchased primarily for the most active rooms in the house. This choice makes good maintenance a high priority to protect the looks of your investment and for prolonging the life of your leather.
TYPES OF LEATHER
A – Aniline
Also known as Natural, Pure, Naked and Unprotected. These are Leathers that are colored with transparent dyestuff. This means you are able to see the actual surface grain markings. These Leathers have very little or no protective treatments applied to them.
P – Protected
Also known as Finished, Semi Aniline, Everyday, Pigmented and Painted. These Leathers have combined the best aspects of a natural product (Leather) and have utilized tannery technology to create a product that is more uniform in appearance and color.
N – NuBuck
Also known as Chaps, Distressed, Bomber and Suede. These are actually Aniline Leathers that the surface has been brushed, and have created a texture similar to velvet on Leather upholstery or fabric. Suede is the “flesh” side of a piece of Leather and NuBuck is an effect that is done to the grain side. Because NuBuck and Aniline Leathers are alike, it’s sometimes hard to tell them apart.
Consider the dust that builds up on a coffee table or desk over a week’s time. This same dust is being deposited on your leather. To this dust, add the airborne cooking oils and atmospheric pollution that is present, to some degree, in every home.
This includes the outside tracking of the common dirt, sand and vegetable fibers from plants. These are carreid into the house in various ways, which can be transferred to leather directly or indirectly from kids and animals.
The inks from newsprint in newspapers will readily be deposited on leather. Clothes such as denims will lose some of their dye onto leather in a process called crocking. The direct approach from the occasional leaky pen or the aspiring 2-year old artist should not be forgotten.
Body oils from both humans and animals cause soils to attach and hold onto leather. Hair and hand oils are easily transferred to the arms and head cushions of leather furniture.
Another important thing not to forget in allergy control is your mattress! Your mattress can contain up to 60% of the dust mites in your home! Dust mites are too small to see and they can produce about 175 times their body weight in fecal matter in the lifetime. It’s actually the dust mite feces that causes the allergic reaction! Since we spend about a third of our life in bed, the bedroom should receive priority treatment. We use the same Allergy Relief Treatment on your mattress. If you have not had your mattress cleaned, get it cleaned and treated today! You can be sleeping on a clean mattress tonight!

A major concern today is the quality of the indoor air in either your office or your home. It has been proven that indoor air guality can be more polluted than outside air. Most people think that we use soap to clean tile and carpet. Actually, I use specialized detergents that are speciicly desined for the cleaning process. The Carpet and Rug Institute has a set standard, with the best being CRI Gold, safe and highly effective, proven to extract more soil and other pollutants leave no residues, and are safe for you and your family and for the environment!
Do you suffer from allergies, asthma or other repertory illness? Over 70 million Americans do! One of the biggest issues of indoor air quality is the fact that the air in your home or office may be causing you more of a problem, because the air doesn’t get refreshed! Dust Mites and pet allergens can be the biggest culprit and people with allergies (even mild cases) can suffer the reactions and allergic illnesses such as asthma and sinusitis. I suffered from these myself and I know how miserable this can be!
Relief can yours! Now, there is a revolutionary anti allergy solution! Reduce pet and dust mite allergen levels by 90% or more. This new process involves a special cleaning detergent that is first used to clean the carpet. The 2nd step is the application of the Allergy Relief Treatment™. This treatment actually changes the allergens themselves, so the body no longer recognize the allergen and you no longer get the reaction to it. Please Note: that in order to receive the benefits of the treatment, you should already have been diagnosed by your doctor to be allergic to these allergens. Otherwise the treatment will not produce the desired results!
Results can usually be seen in 3 days and possibly the first night! The Allergy Relief Treatment when correctly applied, can last for up to 6 months! In a severe case, it may be necessary to apply the treatment more often. It is safe around your family and pets and contains no dyes, odor, perfumes, phosphates, VOC’s, pesticides or mitacide and is biodegradable. The treatment is actually made from fruit and vegetables seeds!
1. Reduces permanent staining
You probably already know that all it takes is 1 Ugly Spot in the middle of the room, to ruin your carpet! Don’t forget that unprotected carpet won’t repel these stains like protected carpet. Plus, it gives you more time to blot the spill up before it works it’s way deeper into the carpet!
2. Helps Keep Your Traffic Areas From Being Ruined
The soil in the traffic areas acts like sand paper in your carpet. Remember that protector keeps dirt from attaching itself to the fiber. This allows the dirt to be easily vacuumed out! Here’s a perfect example of why vacuuming is the most critical step in the cleaning and maintenance process. Picture a small pile of dirt on the floor. The dirt will vacuum easily from the carpet! Now add some water to the sand and see how easily it vacuums up. Surprise, what a mess!
3. Spots Can Be Removed Much Easier
Spot can be removed with much less work and time. Most of the time just blotting with a towel and water! It doesn’t get any simpler than that! Another common problem is leaving soil attracting residues that get left behind, only to have to spot come back much sooner!
4. Your next cleaning will produce better results
Much more soil gets extracted from you floors the next time they are professionally cleaned!
5. Helps to prevents costly service calls
Most spots and spills can be easily blotted up and quickly removed by you! Rarely will you not be able to get them out without calling us out. Even if you have Only 1 one spot, the investment in protectant could easily pay for itself many times over!
There is a lot of confusion in the carpet cleaning industry about the benefits of carpet protector and the added value it gives expensive flooring and furnishings, giving you not only clean carpets but this will substantially add years to its useful life! Carpet does not wear out, it uglies out!
So that there is no longer any confusion, I will give you the facts!
Most nylon stain resist carpet is manufactured with 2 important protective properties. An acid dye blocker, which keeps many household stains such as food coloring like red dye in a beverage, is one of the properties. The second layer of protection is what is called a “fluorochemical” and its job is to resist dry soil. Resisting dry soil keeps the dirt from bonding to the fiber, plus it also protects the acid dye blockers.
What happens when this bonding takes place it starts to dull out the fiber, just like rubbing your carpet with sand paper! Ouch! Once the process starts the damage cannot be corrected! Please keep in mind to, that the protector applied at the factory should be reapplied because foot traffic can significantly reduce the amount of protector especially in the high traffic areas where protectant is needed the most!
Another reason the protector can be damaged is if uneducated, uniformed and sometimes unscrupulous carpet cleaners use harsh chemicals on the carpet, stripping the protector totally off!
